The Smoky Mountain Music Festival originated in 1983. More than 2,100 groups from 28 states and Canada have participated in band, choral and orchestra events. Now in our 21st year, the Smoky Mountain Music Festival has developed into one of the nation's most exciting and educational music festivals with a 50% repeat of participating groups. Several factors contribute to our great success including the entire festival is at one location, and our competent staff, which provides consistent and professional assistance. This is a festival that has many participants each weekend with ensembles in all categories which sustains the integrity of the competition. The judging panels are among the most competent musicians and educators in the profession. The festival location in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, is one of the safest resort towns in America, allowing students freedom in this crime-free resort. The town is located within a 500-mile radius of two-thirds of the nation's population, and in addition to the natural beauty of the great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gatlinburg has many attractions and entertainment facilities. Excellent facilities are available at the Gatlinburg Convention Center where the competitions are held.
