Gaining Administrative Support

Spring 2004

Volume 10, Issue 3

If your administration is becoming more involved in setting parameters and approving (or not approving) travel plans, you are not alone.   The emphasis on testing, "No child left behind", Educational relevance, and safety and liability concerns creates challenges in accomplishing your travel goals.  Here are a few suggestions to help you get over the administrative hurdle. Your New Horizons Consultant can assist you in addressing any the concerns below:
1.    PLAN EARLY!  Tours planned well in advance receive board approval more quickly and are less likely to be affected by situations that arise later.
2. KNOW THE CONCERNS OF YOUR ADMINISTRATION.  Is it liability?  Parental repercussions?  Safety and Security?  Time away from school?  Educational focus? Protection of Monies?
3. PROVIDE DOCUMENTATION to address the issues of insurance, protection of monies, safety and security or other concerns. NHTT can provide what you need
4. CHOOSE YOUR DESTINATION CAREFULLY  Select a destination, itinerary, and educational experience that fall within the parameters given by your administration.
5. GAIN PARENTAL AND STUDENT SUPPORT EARLY so that the early momentum carries the support for the trip.
6. COLLECT DEPOSITS EARLY!  The collection of deposits is a clear indication to everyone that the tour is happening!
New Horizons Tour Consultants will provide you with information and assistance in selecting your educational experience and destination and can help you keep within the parameters of your administration as well as your budget.
